Coming soon: That's Alright By Me

Apologies for the delay, I've been working on both Gene-related and non-Gene-related writing projects (check out the Active Listener for some of my recent reviews).  Coming tomorrow though, I've got a new Clarkophile post on 'That's Alright By Me' that addresses both the version included on Gene Clark Sings for You and the 1968 version, later released on Flying High.


Above: Gene during his short-lived return to the Byrds in late 1967.  It was also around this time that he recorded the ill-fated Gene Clark Sings for You demos.

It's my understanding that it's Gary Usher.

I do not believe it is Gary Usher. This was backstage at the Smother's Brothers Show in October 1967. I own an original of this photo and showed it to Chris Hillman, who did not remember who it was.

No problem with displaying the photo. It was taken by Jasper Dailey, photographer of many '60s bands, most notably The Beach Boys.

Sorry about the duplicate comment. Long time Byrds fan but newbie to leaving comments. I love what you're doing with the blog. The '66-'67 era of The Byrds (including Gene solo) has always been the most intriguing to me. I guess I was just trying to say, that in a sense, Gene had worked on this song three times, when you include The Group work, which was supposedly recorded, but deemed unsatisfactory (wouldn't I have liked to judge that!), and has since disappeared.

It's okay, I understand. There's a delay between your posting a comment and its appearance because I have to approve it first to weed out the spammers.
We're of like minds, because the 66-67 period has always been my personal obsession. It's both mysterious and misunderstood, I think.
